London’s Old Spitafields is hosting the Keen Green and Ethical Trade Market from March 6th 2012. The traders, present every Tuesday and Wednesday, will sell clothing, jewellery, cosmetics, skin care, home furnishings as well as food, all under ethical, fair trade, organic, vegan and handcrafted terms.
Carried away by the idea of shopping for ethical goods in spite of the grey sky, I visited the market on its first day. I was quite disappointed to find less than 10 traders present, especially since it took me over an hour to get there. But luckily, I met some interesting traders with great products.

Happy Hands is the supplier of bags and accessories made of recycled materials such as plastic bags, motorbike seats, korean skirts or mosquito nets. They also collaborate with the organization Daughters of Cambodia by selling handmade brooches and keyrings to protect victims of sex-trafficking in Cambodia.
Athene Skincare offers natural, alcohol free, vegan/vegetarian cosmetics, perfumes and skincare. The products are 100% natural and hypoallergenic. I fell for the body oils and the french lilac fragrance.

In terms of food, I could not resist Global Fusion and their vegan fruity soda breads ! I left with three half loafs : strawberry/champagne, mango and apple crumble ! They will also have a stall at Brighton VegFest.

I will try to visit the event again in the month in hope of finding more stalls!
